The Balearic Islands by yacht: which island for you?

The four main islands split naturally into two cruising areas: Mallorca and Menorca to the north-east, and Ibiza and Formentera, the Pitiusas, to the south-west. Most weekly charters stay within one of the two.

Ses Illetes, Cala d’Hort facing Es Vedrà, and a short hop between the two islands for the clearest water in the Balearics.

Mallorca and Cabrera

From Palma to the Cabrera archipelago, a national park that needs a navigation and mooring permit, and the long beach of Es Trenc.

How much does a yacht charter in the Balearics cost in 2027?

Typical weekly charter fees from low to high season, before extras. Prices from Palma are a good benchmark for the whole archipelago.

Typical week (low to high season)
Sailing yacht, 35–40 ft (3 cabins)€2,300–€4,200
Sailing yacht, 45–47 ft (4 cabins)€1,700–€5,100
Catamaran, 44–45 ft€3,900–€10,200
  • Marina fees: among the highest in the Mediterranean in July and August, especially in Ibiza and Palma. Buoy fields and anchoring on sand cost far less.
  • VAT: Spanish VAT applies to charters; check whether your quote includes it.
  • Deposit and extras: a security deposit or damage waiver, end cleaning, fuel and an outboard for the tender.
  • Skipper: available from most bases if nobody holds a licence.

Anchoring rules: the Posidonia seagrass

The Balearics protect their Posidonia seagrass meadows, which keep the water clear. It is forbidden to anchor in a way that drags the anchor or chain through the seagrass, and inspections and fines are actively enforced. In practice: use the buoy fields where they exist, drop anchor only on sand (light patches; dark blue-green water means seagrass), and check local rules, which are strictest around Formentera.
